First fully electric baggage towing tractors

Published

18th Apr, 2019

Two fully electric baggage towing tractors are added to the KLM ground handling equipment at Schiphol Airport. A further 32 tractors of this type will follow by the end of July 2019. They will be replacing the hybrid tractors currently in use. In so doing, KLM is taking the next step towards reducing CO2 emissions on the ground while simultaneously improving working conditions.

On track

In comparison with 2011, KLM aims to reduce CO2 emissions generated by ground processes by 20% by the year 2020. This means using less gas, fossil fuels and electricity. We’re on track towards achieving this target, as evidenced by our 18% reduction by the end of 2018. The new baggage towing tractors will bring this goal even closer. Since 2011, KLM’s overall gas and electricity consumption has decreased by 19%. And our ambitions go beyond just this.

Because 2020 is just around the corner, we’ve now also set a target for 2030, when we hope to achieve fully CO2-neutral ground operations!
