Food for thought
“Local farmers feed the world” – that’s the principle Qizini pursues in producing the new sandwiches served on European flights since 1 August 2013. The bread is supplied by the Carl Siegert bakery and is prepared with organically cultivated grain. Topped with 3-Star “Better Life” chicken, eggs from Rondeel, cheese with the “Protected Designation of Origin” mark, and prepared with sustainably cultivated palm oil – it’s logical that the sandwiches now taste even better.
Local is lovely
There’s a trend to favour local products, because more and more people want to know where their food comes from. And rightly so. Which is why we’re so proud that the Carl Siegert Bakery, family-run since 1891, is now devoting its passion for baking to our sandwiches. The bakery uses organically cultivated grain sourced in the Netherlands and processed by authentic Dutch windmills. And the bread tastes even better if you know that it was prepared with sustainable palm oil, which means it wasn’t cultivated at the expense of the tropical rainforest. On top of that, local products require less transportation, which is an added benefit.
Tasty bread deserves a tasty topping. That’s why we get both our chicken and our eggs from Rondeel, which pursues high standards for its enclosures and animal welfare. The chickens have plenty of room and open air. In fact, the Dutch animal protection society “Dierenbescherming” awarded Rondeel the maximum three stars in its “Beter Leven” (Better Life) seal of approval.
Apart from chicken sandwiches, we also serve our classic cheese roll, topped with cheese traditionally produced in North Holland. This unique and tasty product bears the European “Protected Designation of Origin” (PDO) mark, which is only awarded to quality products made in accordance with traditional methods in their region of origin.
Sustainability is important, but taste is just as important. That’s why our sandwiches are baked fresh daily and only sliced when they get their topping. Our European Business Class passengers enjoy the same products as Economy Class passengers, but with some special extras, including sandwiches with MSC-certified salmon, and crisps made from Dutch potatoes cultivated in the Hoeksche Waard region.
Where can you get them?
