Professional Passionates Electric Rally. Tests show that electric is best
KLM enjoys a leading position where sustainable initiatives in the aviation industry are concerned. We know that 99% of KLM’s CO2 emissions are caused by our aircraft, which is why we invest considerable amounts of money in research and measures to reduce the CO2 emissions ensuing from air traffic. However, this does not mean that we have chosen to disregard the remaining one percent, which is caused by ground transport, amongst other things.
Ground transport powered by electricity
In collaboration with Schiphol, a testing framework has been created in which KLM’s Ground Service Equipment operates on the basis of vehicles that are powered by electricity. We consciously decided to use electric ground transport because truly sustainable biomass is scarce and also very much needed for the development of sustainable biofuels. By doing this, we want to make air traffic more sustainable first and foremost, because the current state of the art means that no alternatives are available yet, unfortunately.
Electric wherever possible!
Based on the knowledge that it is better for us to use biofuel for air transport rather than ground transport, we are also encouraging other sectors to use electric (business) transport wherever possible. We generate attention for this subject by sponsoring the Professional Passionates Electric Rally. The more the business sector realises the importance of electric transport the better.
